Custom cabinetry in Santa Monica

The Pacifica Mill designs, builds and installs custom kitchens, built-ins, closets and vanities for Santa Monica houses and condominiums. Everything is made in our Malibu shop and installed by our own crew, usually working alongside your architect, designer or builder.

Remodels, new houses and condos

Santa Monica work is a mix: full remodels of 1920s and 1930s Spanish and Craftsman houses north of Montana, new modern houses on tight lots, and condominium kitchens where every inch counts. Each asks for something different from the cabinetry. Older houses usually want face-frame or inset construction and walls that are scribed rather than assumed square. Modern houses tend toward frameless boxes, flat rift oak or lacquer, and integrated appliances.

In a condo or multi-unit building, the install is planned as carefully as the cabinets. We work with the building's rules on elevator reservations, delivery windows and work hours, and size assemblies so they fit through the doors and hallways they have to pass.

How a project runs

We measure on site, work from your designer's drawings or help design from scratch, and produce shop drawings with elevations, sections and samples for sign-off. Shop drawings typically take 1–2 weeks after the site measure, and fabrication typically takes 6–10 weeks from drawing approval. Our own crew delivers and installs, and we plan delivery days with the builder in advance because city streets and small lots leave little room for staging.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you work with my architect, designer or builder?
Yes. We work from your architect's or designer's drawings, turn them into dimensioned shop drawings and send those back for review before anything is cut. We coordinate blocking, plumbing, electrical and appliance specs with your builder. We also work directly with homeowners when there is no designer on the job.
Can you install in a condo or HOA building?
Yes. We plan the install around the building's rules, including elevator bookings, delivery windows and permitted work hours, and build the cabinetry in sections that fit through the building's doors and halls.
Frameless or face-frame for an older Santa Monica house?
Either can be right. Face-frame and inset doors often suit Spanish and Craftsman houses; frameless suits contemporary rooms. We build both and recommend the one that fits the house and the door style you want.
How long does it take?
Shop drawings typically take 1–2 weeks after the site measure, and fabrication typically takes 6–10 weeks from drawing approval. Installation is usually days, not weeks.
