How much does a custom kitchen cost in Malibu?
It depends on the size of the room and what goes into it, so we do not publish a single number. The main drivers are the linear feet of cabinetry, full-height versus base-and-upper runs, the wood species and veneer, the finish (oil and stain cost less than multi-coat lacquer or two-tone paint), drawer count, panel-ready appliances, and interior fittings like pantry pull-outs and lighting. We quote by the linear foot from your plans or a site measure, and itemize anything outside that, so you can see where the money goes. Send us drawings or a few photos and dimensions and we will come back with a quote.
Request a quote →How long does a custom kitchen take?
Shop drawings typically take 1–2 weeks after the site measure. Fabrication and finishing typically take 6–10 weeks from the day you approve the drawings. Installation is usually days, not weeks, and depends on the size of the kitchen and whether counters are templated between our visits. The best time to call is while the walls are still open, so we can coordinate blocking, plumbing and electrical with your builder.
Do you work with my architect or interior designer?
Yes, most of our projects come through an architect, interior designer or builder. We work from their drawings and specifications, turn them into dimensioned shop drawings, and send those back for review before anything is cut. We are also happy to work directly with homeowners and help with the design when there is no designer on the job.
Should I choose frameless or face-frame cabinets?
Both are good when they are built well, and we build both. Frameless (European-style) cabinets give you full-overlay doors, tight even reveals and slightly more usable interior space, which suits most contemporary kitchens. Face-frame cabinets have a solid-wood frame on the front of the box, which suits inset doors and more traditional rooms and adds stiffness to long runs. We recommend whichever fits the house and the door style you want.
What woods and materials do you use?
Solid rift and plain-sawn white oak, walnut and maple for doors, faces and furniture. Boxes are prefinished plywood or veneer-core plywood, and Baltic birch where strength and stability matter, such as drawer boxes and heavy shelving. Finishes are stain, lacquer, hardwax oil, or two-tone paint, all sprayed in the shop.
Do you install the cabinets?
Yes. Our own crew delivers, sets, levels and scribes the cabinetry to the walls, hangs and adjusts every door and drawer, and walks the finished room with you. We coordinate with your builder for counters, appliances and trades that follow us.
Will you build just one piece of furniture or a single built-in?
Yes. We take on single pieces such as a dining table, a bed, a console, a vanity or one bookcase wall, as well as full houses. Lead times for a single piece depend on what else is in the shop. Tell us what you have in mind and where it is going.
Cabinetry, built-ins and furniture →Do you serve Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica and Calabasas?
Yes. We are based in Malibu and regularly work in Pacific Palisades, Topanga, Santa Monica, Brentwood, Calabasas, Agoura Hills and Westlake Village, and up the coast to Ventura. We measure and install every job ourselves, so most of our work is within that range.
Where we work →Are your cabinets made locally?
Yes. The Pacifica Mill is a Malibu shop. Parts are CNC-cut for accuracy, then assembled, fitted and hand-finished at the bench by the same people who drew them.
What hardware do you use?
Blum soft-close hinges and undermount drawer slides are standard on every job, not an upgrade. Drawer boxes are dovetailed or doweled. Pulls and knobs are your choice; we can source them or install hardware you supply.
Can I see your work in person?
By appointment. Much of our work is in private homes, so visits depend on the owners, but we can usually show finished rooms, work in progress at the shop, and door and finish samples. Photos of recent rooms are on our Work page.

Email hello@pacificamill.com or use the contact form with the room, the address area, your timeline, and any drawings or photos you have. We reply with next steps, usually a site measure and a design conversation, followed by a quote and shop drawings.
