Built-ins
Built-ins, libraries and media walls
Fitted to the room
Walls are rarely plumb and ceilings are rarely level, which is why built-ins from a catalog leave gaps. We measure on site, build with scribe allowances and fit every panel during install, so the shelving reads as part of the house.
The full-height ochre lacquered shelving wall beside a plaster fireplace in our work gallery is one example; built-ins can be stained wood, lacquer or paint to match the room.
Media walls that hide the equipment
A media wall works when the equipment disappears and still gets air. We plan the TV mount, speaker locations, equipment cabinet ventilation, cable paths and service access with your AV installer in the shop drawings, and use speaker cloth, perforated panels or pocket doors where needed.
FAQ
Common questions
- Can you hide a TV and speakers in a built-in?
- Yes. We plan TV mounts, speaker locations, cable paths and ventilation with your AV installer, and can use pocket doors, speaker cloth or perforated panels so the equipment is hidden but still works and stays cool.
- Painted or stained built-ins?
- Either. Painted built-ins suit traditional rooms and can match the wall or trim color; stained or oiled wood shows the grain and suits modern and canyon houses. We spray all finishes in the shop.
- Will built-ins fit walls that aren't square?
- Yes. We build with scribe allowances and fit panels to the actual walls, floor and ceiling during install.
- How long does it take?
- Shop drawings typically take 1–2 weeks after the site measure, and fabrication typically takes 6–10 weeks from drawing approval.
