Cabinetry and millwork for Palisades and Malibu rebuilds
When to bring in the cabinet shop
Earlier than most people expect. Cabinetry touches almost every other trade: appliance sizes set openings, sink and range locations set plumbing and gas, and wall cabinets, floating vanities and heavy shelving need blocking in the framing. If those decisions are made while the plans are being drawn, they are free to change. After framing and rough-in, every change costs time.
A practical point to aim for: have the cabinetry drawn and priced around the time the plans go in for permit, and fabrication scheduled so cabinets are ready when the house is at drywall and finish.
Pricing from plans
You do not need a finished house to get a cabinetry price. We quote by the linear foot from your architect's elevations and floor plans and itemize anything outside that, such as panel-ready appliance fronts, interior fittings and lighting. That gives you a real number for your budget, your lender or your conversations with your insurer, and it can be refined when the shop drawings are done.
Keeping the schedule
Shop drawings typically take 1–2 weeks after the site measure, and fabrication typically takes 6–10 weeks from drawing approval. We confirm the schedule with your builder at drawing approval and again before delivery, so cabinetry arrives when the house is ready for it. Our own crew installs, scribes and adjusts everything, which keeps one team accountable from measure to final walk-through.
Rebuilding, not replacing
A rebuild is a chance to get the kitchen and storage you actually want rather than recreating what was there. We are glad to work from photos and memories of the old house, from a new design by your architect, or something in between.
FAQ
Common questions
- When should I order cabinets in a rebuild?
- Bring us in while the plans are being drawn, so appliance sizes, plumbing locations and blocking are settled before framing. Plan to approve shop drawings so that fabrication finishes around the time the house reaches drywall and finish.
- Can you price cabinetry from plans?
- Yes. We quote by the linear foot from your architect's elevations and floor plans, itemize anything outside that, and refine the number once shop drawings are complete.
- Does insurance cover custom cabinetry?
- That depends on your policy and settlement, so talk to your adjuster or public adjuster. What we can provide is an itemized quote from your plans, which is often useful in those conversations.
- How long does cabinetry take in a rebuild?
- Shop drawings typically take 1–2 weeks after the site measure, and fabrication typically takes 6–10 weeks from drawing approval. We schedule fabrication against your builder's timeline and confirm it at drawing approval and before delivery.
- Do you work with my architect, designer or builder?
- Yes. We work from your architect's or designer's drawings, turn them into dimensioned shop drawings and send those back for review before anything is cut. We coordinate blocking, plumbing, electrical and appliance specs with your builder. We also work directly with homeowners when there is no designer on the job.
